If you have been in Internet Marketing for any length of time, you are going to know what it is like to get stuck in a rut once in awhile. These are the slow days. The days of no Opt Ins. The days of no sales. The days you begin to distrust your own abilities. The days when you start to wonder “Is anyone even hearing me?”

Are You Stuck in a Rut?


This is human nature, and it is also just a part of every business cycle. I have developed a technique that I use personally during these times that always seems to create that Ah HA! Moment, and get my tire out of that ditch. It is very, very, simple, and very, very, effective, because you have to turn your focus “inward” and look at YOU rather than “outward” and looking at your business.

The first step is to simply open up a blank Word document. Then, start typing. “Type WHAT!!” You are asking. Type about YOU! Write your marketing History. Past, Present, and Future.

Sit down and ask yourself, Ok, what did I really need to know when I first started into Internet Marketing? What did I know a little about, and what was I totally clueless at. What was my mindset? What things did I believe then, that I found later where untrue? What did I not believe, to find later WAS true?

OK, that was the past. Now, where am I at in marketing today? Is my business where I want it to be? Is my income level where I want it to be? What things do I still feel unsure of? What things do I truthfully know I need to make improvements in? What am I truthfully NOT doing that I know I really should be doing?

OK, now, what do I feel I am doing right? What is working for me consistently? Where am I seeing constant growth? What am I doing now that I did not think possible 12 months ago? What milestones have I achieved? What have I truly learned?

And finally, how am I going to improve, or correct the deficiencies? What am I going to commit to doing to change the things I am currently dissatisfied with? What am I willing to do to achieve the success I want? What steps am I going to take to get there. What is my ULTIMATE goal?

The secret to success with this little self diagnosis is to not set and deliberate on it. Just ask yourself the questions in your head, and start typing the answers on that blank page. You will truly be amazed at what this little self inspection will reveal to you. I can hear you saying now, “I don’t want to type my biography up!” The good news is, you can usually do this in about 15 minutes in 500 words or less. It is no more and no less than writing a PERSONAL article meant only for YOU! Just about the same length of this blog post.

Try this technique for yourself the next time you feel stuck and need inspiration.

The 5 Steps to Online Business Success

Are you achieving the level of Success in your Online Business that you desire? I typically find that most people are not. The reasons? There are lots, but they typically all boil down to one thing; Focusing on the WRONG things.

To achieve success online you must focus your efforts on doing those things that actually “make you money”.

Here are the 5 Steps to Online Success, listed in the order of Most Important first:

1) Building your Opt-in List
2) Advertising your site or sites
3) Working your Leads
4) Tracking everything
5) Partnering with others and leveraging resources

Building your Opt-in List is the key element, the primary focus, for EVERY Internet Marketer. Without a list, you have no business, Period. This single step should represent the majority of your daily focus. The other 4 steps are actually simply “Action” steps that are taken to achieve this first primary focus.

Advertising your site(s) is essential to building YOUR list. Consistency is the keyword here. Just remember this little phrase from my mentor Frank A. Trueblood “He who advertises the most wins”. It’s as simple as that. Even if you are advertising on a regular basis, don’t think you can set back on your laurels and expect to just let it ride. That is where the Tracking step comes in. More on that in a moment.

You’ve built a list, you are advertising and making that list grow, now you have to “Work” those leads, “Maintain” that list. How do you do this? Through regular communication with those folks, and by offering them VALUE in that communication. Note that I did NOT say SELL to THEM. Shoving ad after ad at your list will make it disappear quickly. These folks have joined your list so that YOU can provide them with some value that they can use in their business. Consistently work at creating a relationship with those on your list. Whether it is through an email series, a newsletter, or simply through blog updates such as this, it is essential to find ways to GIVE to those on your list.

Tracking your results is the only measure you will have as to the effectiveness of your advertising and list building efforts. You need to track EVERYTHING you put out there. There are a lot of excellent tracking resources out there. Find one that works for you, and use the H#*L out of it. In advertising you can’t send out just one ad and think, that’s it, I’m done. You need to know how many “hits” that ad is getting. How many “opens” or “click throughs” it is generating. You must constantly write and test and tweek new Ad copy on a regular basis. (As a side note, you generally have to get an Ad in front of people about 7 times before they respond to it, and take action). For your website, you need to know how people are coming into your site. Which point are they entering Where are they leaving? What are they looking at the most? The least? How long are they staying?

And finally we have Partnering with others, and leveraging resources. Trying to be a one man/woman show is a very lonely and usually unprofitable way to work online. Having a great Mastermind Team is one way of sharing resources of knowledge. Share what works and what doesn’t. Everyone grows and succeeds from the experience. You can also partner with others in Joint Ventures. Creating a sometimes long term, sometimes short term business alliance with another marketer to share resources, and profits in a mutually beneficial campaign.

Focus on these 5 Steps, follow through on them Consistently, and you WILL achieve the Online Success that you are looking for.
