Article Marketing: The Pitfalls You Must Avoid

Article Marketing is by far the quickest way to get “found” by the Search Engines, which in turn gets your information in front of more potential prospects. However, you want to avoid these “short cut” pitfalls in your marketing strategy.

Caught taking Article Marketing shortcuts?
Back in the day about 8 or 9 years ago, Search Engines were just coming into being. They were not very smart at that time. In those days, people would blast out Articles filled with Keywords to attract the search engines. They were barely readable for humans, but the search engines thought that it had to be an important article about Imported French Wine, since it said Imported French Wine over 45 times in the article. This tactic doesn’t work anymore.

The search engines have grown smarter, and continue to grow daily. They now recognize this type of article writing as spam, and they simply ignore it. They will not post it and rank it, since they are able to recognize it for junk content.

You still need keywords. Just do not SPAM them throughout the article. Take this article for instance. What do you think the keywords are that it is targeting? Did you say Article Marketing? Very good. It is the first 2 words in the subject. And also contains those same 2 words in the first sentence. That is basically all that you need to place in your article for the search engine spiders to pick up on it.

There are a lot of sites out there offering “Pushbutton Auto Content Generators”. Here is what you are going to get for your hard earned dollars. You’re going to write an article and then you are going to run it through the AutoContent generator. It is then going to spit out the same article in 4 or 5 different variations. The only problem is, all of the “auto generated” copies, are going to read as if a 3rd grader wrote them. The generators are basically electronic synonym generators, or thesauruses. They will keep the same format and structure of your writing, but change a bunch of the words around to “other” words that mean the same thing or are at least similar in meaning. They will not be worth reading.

These types of Black hat shortcuts and tricks get caught very quickly by the search engines these days. Usually within days. You must write your articles now, as a subject matter expert.

You need to look at other well written articles on the same topic, and review their structure. Look at the keywords being used. What “Buzz words” for that particular subject are included? Search Engines are able to recognize patterns and phrases typically used in articles, such as Golf for instance. There are certain terms, phrases, and topics that are related to the world of Golf. If your content does not follow or include those same types of content patterns for that subject, again the search engine spiders are not going to pick it up. They will not find it relevant to the topic.

You must research your topic thoroughly. If you write about a topic that you really know nothing about, your writing will be very 1 dimensional, and not very interesting or informative to read. If you want to post articles on your site about subject matter you do not really know, you would be money ahead to pay someone else with the subject knowledge to write it for you for a fee.

If using articles written by others, do so sparingly. Only if they are very well written, and of high value to the reader should you use them. If you simply fill your site with articles written by others, you are not only creating duplicate content that the search engines hate, but you are making it very obvious to the readers that you personally have very little knowledge of the subject.

I hope these few insights give you the tools you need to get out there and be successful in your Article Marketing efforts.
