Phone Fear…Beat It or Be Defeated!
To this day, it amazes me how many Marketers out there suffer from Phone Fear! I mean, c’mon! We are in an industry geared to Communication Skills, Attraction Marketing principles, and Personal Branding.
Are YOU the Marketer to follow, if you cannot pick up the phone, and have a simple one on one conversation with a prospective client or partner? Probably not so much…
I have MANY online friends who also happen to be Marketers. I can pick up the phone, and chat with them about Marketing, Family, the Kids, and Life in General, for an hour at a shot. They are all excellent communicators. Each one is lively, fun, and always offering up golden nuggets, that simply amp up my thirst for more. Yet, if you bring up the subject of “having to CALL prospects” it is surprising how many excuses begin to hit the fan
Folks, THIS is also, exactly what your communications with your clients, and prospective partners should be as well. I’m not suggesting that you go out and audition for “The Last Comic Standing” in your contact call. What I am suggesting is that you be your true self! You are simply having a conversation with another human being, who gets up in the morning and puts on their socks one at a time, just like you do. What is there to fear?
The truth here is that most of these naturally excellent communicators, are afraid of one simple thing… They are afraid they are going to across as pitchmen… Afraid that the person on the other end of the line is going to perceive them as just pitching a product, or an opportunity.
Worse yet, they are sometimes afraid that they will stumble over the information, and end up sounding like a “newbie” rather than a leader.
The bottom line is, you are simply another human being, trying to offer valuable content and information to another human being. On top of this, you are giving this valuable information and content to someone who has personally asked you for it in the first place!!
It is really as simple as that. Are you going to stumble at times? I guarantee it! Will you lose your train of thought and stumble for words on occasion? Yep! You sure will. You’re human. Humans are never perfect. The person on the other end of that phone understands this. If they do not, you really have no use for them in the long run anyway. Harsh words, but true.
So the next time that you’re faced with that decision as to either pick up the phone, and call, or simply send another email, PICK UP THAT PHONE!!! The impact that it has on the prospect is empowering! As stated earlier, so many fear it, that very few actually do it. When they do actually make that call, the prospect is typically ecstatic that someone actually took the time to call them, and personally connect with them. I encounter this on a regular basis. I know that you will as well.
So, make a pact with yourself… Make the decision to actually pick up that phone, and make a human connection. It will immediately benefit you with the rewarding feeling of leadership, as well as crystallize in your prospects mind, that you are a caring individual who takes the time to make connections, and build relationships. THIS is the type of person that your prospect is searching for…the type of person they now perceive as a leader, AND another regular Joe (or Jill). The type of leader who can be trusted, and who should be followed.
Get out there and pick up that phone. You will be amazed at the quick results.
